Richard Taperell graduated BA, LLB and LLM from Sydney University, was a solicitor for 9 years, 5 as partner in a major Newcastle firm, and was called to the bar in 1980. He taught contracts, torts, constitutional law and commercial law at Newcastle University for about 10 years while a solicitor and at the Bar, and was consultant in contract at the Law School. He is an arbitrator.
Most of his practice has been in personal injury work, equity, estates and family provision work, or in contractual disputes.
His current practice is in those areas and in costs disputes; his interests focus on legal history and biography.
